Pere al vino   
Bosc pears simmered in red wine with spices

4 Bosc pears or other firm cooking pears – 2 cups robust red wine – ½ cup sugar – 4 cloves – pinch of cinnamon

Peel the pears but leave the stem on.
Stand them snugly on a tall baking dish, add the rest of the ingredients and cover with a lid or aluminum foil.
Bake in a preheated 375 oven for 60-80 minutes, till the pears are tender and the liquor is syrupy.
Serve hot or cold with whipped cream or ice cream.
